E-square's E-Recruitment can solve selection challenges

The Manager Human Resource of e-square , Mr. Shahid Sheikh, has said lack of standards and the poor adoption of technology were part of the causes of recruitment challenges in the public sector.

He explained that the quality of the workforce in the public sector could be improved by instituting stringent entry qualifications across board in all ministries, departments and agencies as well as adopting e-recruitment alternative.

He called on government at all levels to come up with new guidelines and policies that would ensure that only the very best brains were absorbed into the civil service. This, he said, will uphold merit in the civil service.

Shahid Sheikh said, “It is high time we moved away from the old ways of doing things. The civil service is such an integral part of any government that it should not be an all comers field. We can turn things around by coming up with a standardised screening method the same way entrants into secondary and tertiary institutions are expected to write specific examinations before being considered for admission.”

He said by doing that, there was bound to be a change in the quality of graduates being employed in the Civil Service as only the best would be chosen.

He urged Pakistan should emulate countries like Singapore where the brightest brains are absorbed into the civil service as against the present practice where the public service has become a dumping ground for non-performers and dropouts.
